A Memo from Lew Zimmer of the Montana Farm Bureau Federation:
There is absolutely no question that the Montana Endowment Act has stimulated philanthropic action on the part of many Montanans who have substantially raised their level of giving. The tax incentive has allowed development people to ask donors to think bigger.
I have been closely involved with two charitable entities since the enactment of the law and am familiar with dynamic impact on a third non-profit organization. All have benefited handsomely.
Montana, as you are well aware, has not been known for its philanthropy. It is wonderful that we now are stimulating thought and action. It would be a travesty to not continue to promote endowments.
